Cookie policy
A short list, because the website sets very few. What each one does and how to control it.

What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you between pages or visits. Similar technologies, such as browser storage, do a similar job. We use the word cookie for all of them here.
Cookies on this website
The public pages of this website, including the mortgage calculator and the quote form, work without setting any cookies. The calculator keeps your figures in the page address so you can bookmark or share them. If you look up an area by postcode, the postcode goes to our server for that lookup only and is not stored; nothing else about your figures reaches us until you choose to ask for a quote.
Strictly necessary
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| ws_sid | Keeps a member of our staff signed in to the enquiries dashboard. Set only on the dashboard, never on public pages. | Up to 8 hours, or 30 minutes of inactivity |
| ws_csrf | Protects the dashboard against forged requests. Set alongside ws_sid and only for staff. | Same as ws_sid |
| ws_cookie_consent | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner so we do not ask again. Kept in your browser's local storage rather than as a cookie. | Until you clear your browser data |
These are needed for the parts of the site they belong to and cannot be switched off individually.
Analytics, only with your consent
With your permission we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and where visitors struggle. It sets
cookies beginning _ga that last up to two years and identify your browser, not you. We have switched on IP
anonymisation and we do not use the data for advertising. If you decline, no analytics cookie is set and the site
works exactly the same.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies. The settings are usually under Privacy or Site data. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies has no effect on the public website; it would only stop our staff signing in to the dashboard.
